DESCRIPTION:  MEChA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlán (Chicano/a student organization), as a High School Chapter we adhere to the MEChA Statewide organization goals which are: reaching for the highest academic potential, developing leadership skills, instill cultural pride and practice civic involvement. This year’s conference theme centers around the idea of learning about our history which leads us to establishing a strong sense of identity. Having a sense of identity potentially leads to discovering our passion. This passion can lead to a path of higher education, civic involvement, and/or work towards the progress of our community. The Newberg High School Chapter would like to have conference workshops that center around such subjects: The Chicano Movement’s history, identity, civic involvement, organizing, leadership, how to prepare for higher education, etc.
